It is important for all men age 18 through 25 to register for the Selective Service. Name one reason why.
Required by law
In the United States, men ages 18–25 must sign up with the Selective Service because federal law says they have to. Not registering can lead to penalties and can also affect eligibility for certain government benefits, jobs, or financial aid.
Civic duty
In the United States, citizens are expected to do certain things to support and protect the country. Registering is one way to show responsibility and readiness to serve if there is a national emergency. It reflects doing your part as a member of the community.
Makes the draft fair, if needed
Registering creates a complete list of people who could be called if Congress and the President ever bring back a draft. Having everyone in the same age group register helps make any future selection more equal and less biased.
